Trying to get past 1 day

I have no hint just feel a failure. Stopped Monday cold turkey made it to Tuesday. Restart Thursday made it to the afternoon. Each day I say today is the day. It's not happening. I don't know why. Started my day with up and at them - walk down on the beach. Yes I can do this. Pondering my reasons why as I cough in the clean air and watch those running. I want to do that. But yep get coffee and have a cigarette. Damn. Guilt and failure. What am I scared of can't even make it past 2 hours! Help

You're not ready. It's that simple If you were...you would see the absurdity and insanity, of putting a burning pile of poison in your mouth and inhaling the fumes. Not to mention, paying through the nose for the privilege. After the relatively short period of physical withdrawal passes -- and let's face it, it's not heroin -- even cravings wouldn't matter much. You don't crave what you don't want.

I do see the absurdity and insanity of putting pile of burning poison in my mouth! Unfortunately research does show it is as hard to stop as heroin and as addictive. The dopamine receptors need rewiring!
I suppose I have lived with this for so many years. It is very scary.

It may be as addictive...but quitting heroin or detoxing from alcohol unsupervised can kill you. Quitting smoking just feels uncomfortable. Millions of people have quit...thousands quit for good every day. Allen Carr's, Easyway To Stop Smoking, will reorder your thinking...if you let it. And just keep trying. My second quit was the one that locked it in.

Hi Linda B, Just keep on trying. Keep on posting here and reading the stories. Constant thinking of quitting eventually works, especially with the encouragement from these posts.

One minute at a time.. don't worry about a day or an hour. If you can make it one minute you can make it 5 then 15 then 30...You can do this... I believe in you!

lindab, try and think of a strategy to get through the first day. Then use that to say heck I don't want to go through that again! I am on day 7 now, cold turkey. My plan for the first day as follows: my boss was out that day, so planned to get through to lunch. Then went home and had a nice meal and took a sleeping pill at 8pm to relax. Managed to get through to the next morning and felt great about it. That first day is massive - it will encourage you to keep the gain.
