advice please I can quit last resort to quit

I have bipolar and an addictive personality. I don't do drugs or drink just these horrible ciggaretes. I have tried patches,inhalor,cold turkey, quit line, gp ( champix zyban not allowed with my bipolar) and even speaking to mental health and friends but nothing helps. I know it only takes 72 hrs to be nicotine free but i cant make it past an hour. I figured if i joint an online community id put my pressure on myself to quit as my health from cigarrettes such as emphesema is not far off if i dont stop now which scares me as i want to see my kids grow up. Any tips would be helpfull please mine ia psychological dependence not physical thank you

These stories are very helpful but quite sparse. Have you tried reading Alan Carrs easy way to quit smoking? There is an audio book as well - very inspiring. It's a roadmap to success and freedom

Hi Helpless-butDetermined, I have been quit for over 15 months now and can assure you, it DOES get better and eventually you will rarely think about smoking. On day 3 of my quit I purchased Alan Cars Easy way to quit smoking. This book really helped me to understand why I smoked and that I was "escaping smoking" not "giving it up" Once I had made it past a week I wanted to make other "lifestyle" changes and read that detoxing the body would help with cravings. I watched the video (on netflix), hungry for change. That really made me think about the nutrition choices I was making. They suggested juicing as a way to detox. I started juicing around 2 weeks after I quit and purchased a colon cleanse product. You might want to check with your Pdoc if juicing and colon cleanse, detox will interfere with your medications for bipolar (if you are on medications). I had a headache the first couple of mornings but felt more energized by doing the juicing. From there I had reflexology, acupuncture, sauna for 15 minutes a day to sweat out toxins. Epson salt, baking soda and lavender baths before bed, drinking tons of water, cut out most sugar and was getting massage therapy once a week. All this therapy was initially costing me more money than it would have to smoke but in the long run I saved many times over what I spent. I believe the other lifestyle changes I made not only made the withdrawals easier to handle but gave me more confidence that I had a tool belt to battle the nicotine demon. To date, I have dodged smoking over 10,000 cigarettes (!), saved approximately $6,000 and have avoided losing 115 days of life.

Thank you all very much for your support. I am going to get the Allan car book it definitely seems like the way to go, my psychiatrist suggests counselling to which I'll do too but the book sounds like the ultimate plan as everyone speaks highly of it. Not this time,, I will ask my dodoc about cleanses and meds cos it sounds like a great way to clean out all the toxins I just want to feel healthy again I must admit I do eat hhealthy and drink tons of water but that ain't enough. Red-67,, I think I'll need a packet laying around to say no to cos then I'll feel in control and won't feel like I'm loosing anything just for a short while. Wee William thanks I have been trying to educate myself as much as possible

You are one step ahead of the game in the fact you eat healthy and drink lots of water. You have primed your body to rid itself of the nicotine that much easier. As you mentioned that smoking is mostly psychological for you, I believe if you have some of the ammunition (acupuncture, massage, reflexology, sauna, vitamin C) you can use this to fight the nicodemon. When I would get a craving in the first couple of weeks, I would think to myself, I can handle this because I have done acupuncture that makes me able to battle the craving. I would think the craving wasn't as strong as me and I could outlast the craving. Another trick I tried in previous attempts was to go through a process before allowing myself to have a cigarette. I would review the reasons I wanted to quit smoking (takes 2 minutes), then take a shower for around 5 minutes. If I still really had to have a cigarette, I would allow myself to have one. This allowed the craving to pass and I never did actually have a cigarette after showering. I believe I quit for approximately 2 or 3 months and eventually, I got too comfortable with my quit and the nicodemon tricked me into believing I could have just one as I was no longer addicted. From there, it tricked me into believing I could have just 1 a day, and before I knew it I was back to smoking full time. Never get too comfortable with your quit and believe you can just have one. I have read several stories on this site and other sites that having that one leads to full time smoking. Remember, you have several people supporting you on this site and will help you out whenever you need it.

Green dragon za I downloaded and are currently reading thankyou. Not this time thanks for the positive comments I am taking them onboard. I'm starting Friday so I will try your tip of reading why I want to quit then take a shower to get pass the craving. It sounds like a very good strategy thank you again and to everyone who has commented this means a lot that I have support

I also, like urself, have LITERALLY tried everything out there & was starting to go insane and beginning to lose all hope! I 150% recommend u google QSN (quit smoking now) it is a 30 day course (it does cost money) but they offer a money back guarantee if u fail.. I also read Alan carr's book, and dont get me wrong I absolutely loved it, but I found I was one of those small percentage of people that it didn't work for and I read it over and over again.. QSN is amazing! I won't explain the product in this msg cause it's too long lol but PLEASE do urseld a favour and check it out... I have been quit for over a month now and the process was sooo easy! It literally takes away 95% of the cravings and believe it or not, it takes away almost all of the irritability & I even found myself not even thinking about smoking for a majority of the time :-)

Join a gym, exercise and become addicted to sport. e.g Mothers Day run. Best of luck, it's a hard journey but worth it.
