ATLAST!! After 34 years of smoking I finally realise I have to stop if I want to avoid cancer

Hi all, a few older friends who are and/or were smokers having terrible health because of cancers they have. My aunt and a friend both in late 60's and both have serious gum disease and have to have teeth removed because of chemo and radiation treatment has caused more health problems.
They never stopped smoking (and drinking). I don't want the same future. Fear of cancer and cancer treatment has atlast stopped me in my tracks of denial and constant putting off giving up. So every day, next month I am going to the gym or doing tennis or yoga (something anyway), no alcohol, a shower or bath every night to help with relaxation and keeping 'clean'. Having just turned 50, I know I can't go on like this. I want to be fit and healthy and enjoy the life given to me. I just want to forget about cigarettes. They are my enemy and I will treat them as such. Best wishes to everyone

Well done, you have some good ideas, plan of action. Lucky I checked in before turning off my computer. "YOUR" post has stopped me from buying another packet and postponing my date. There's never ever a good time! So thank you. So sorry to hear your story, I really feel for your relatives. I do NOT want that to happen to me for the sake of a stupid smoke & don't want to have to pay through the roof for it either. My two older sisters are heading in that direction both heavy smokers and drinkers. I've not been as bad as them over the years but every time I stop I always smoke more & is now effecting me at 45. It's time to stop the crap and start living. Good luck to you.

Hi there lizarokka. I'm so glad u made this potentially life saving decision & a little bit down the track you'll probably look back & think why did I ever start this filthy disgusting habit in the first place. As 4 me I'm not strong enough 4 cold turkey but I have cut back quite abit. 2day I only smoked 7 compared 2 my usual 18 to 20 so I guess there's hope. Lol! Starting champix course 2morrow so hopefully that'll set me straight.just remember No one ever died from NOT smoking. Good luck. U got this.
