I've been a smoker for 38 years and a

very heavy one. I was so scared to give up to be honest but last Friday night was my last cig!! I admit I'm using a patch during the day but not at night. So far on day 6 smoke free and doing really well. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I don't smoke anymore but so far, it's not been a really rough ride for me. I feel proud and I love that I don't stink anymore. I'm already feeling so much healthier and that's the main thing for me. I'm not ashamed of wearing a patch because it's helping me but I still think even on NRT, you still have to do a lot of the work yourself. I'm very new to this site and I can't seem to find where I posted my first message. Anyone know how we find them?

Well done to you. No one should ever be ashamed of using NRT, we each have our own ways of quitting and coping. I used Champix and loved it.

I understand the fear, that was huge for me but it's so go on the other side. Most days smoking doesn't even enter my mind.

Keep strong, keep busy and rant away if you need to. Good luck

Hi Kim

Also smoke for 27 years.....know the feeling. I am on my 5th day without smoking and also feel scared but I do love to smell great...thats the funny thing in the 27 years I smoked I hated it to stink (always had perfume and beechies in my bag, and when ever I did not, I panniced because I knew the smell is bad) so it is great to put on perfume just once a day and smell like that for the rest of the day....and I am saving a lot of money on perfume and not buying any smokes.....good luck to you, will check on you again soon!!!

Hi Cranky76, (love your name) lol.

Thank you for your encouragement. I have read a few of your comments on here and you are so inspiring and extremely non-judgemental!! That is an awesome trait to have, particularly when people are first starting out.

Hi Marinda,

Congrats on your 5th day and I'm hoping now your 6th? I am exactly the same as you. Love wearing perfume and yesterday just had my hair done so I feel so fresh and clean.

I will try hard to keep my eye out for you as we are at the same stage of our journey.

Good luck!!!

Hi Johnnie,

Thank you for your help. It is a shame that notifications are not received by email. I jumped on my computer this time to post.

Hi Kim, it's amazing how smelling fresh can make so much difference! My car smells good, my house smells good, my bed smells good, my clothes smell good......I walk anywhere in the vicinity of a person smoking and the smell hits me! I don't find the smell tempting at all. I'm sure years ago cigarette smoke smelt much better than it does now. I'm glad it stinks because it's helping me to be strong. We have a couple of female smokers here at work and when they come back in from a cig break, the smell is so strong. I was always self conscious when I did the same, but I'm so pleased I don't have to worry about that anymore. My 5th day is still very fresh in my mind, I was so happy to reach 5 days smoke free. Now I'm 58 days smoke free and find that time has flown by.
