Day 3 - Cold Turkey

Posted in Getting started
schedule 23 Mar 2017

Hi everyone,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm 35 yrs old and have been smoking since I was about 17. I've decided I am sick and tired of it and I need to stop. I would generally smoke 20ish cigarettes per day, but a lot more when I was drinking heavily.

I'm a father of 3 beautiful children and I don't want them in the future to see me suffer a slow horrible death, so it's time I did something right now.

I have tried a few times before and generally only lasted a few weeks. Cold turkey is the best method for me as I don't want nicotine in my body in any form.

I currently drink to much alcohol which I thought would also be a good time to cut back on the alcohol intake.

So it's smoke free, clean eating and drinking for me from now on.

I am 3 days smoke free and feel quite good. I have had my morning coffee without any real serious craving.

I will continue to post my updates here and read everyone's inspirational stories.

Keep it up everyone!!

Hiya Dutchy and welcome!

That's fantastic to hit all habits head on!

It's weird, I've always been a relatively

clean eater, read food labels etc but never

thought about how smoking was killing me.

Good luck 😉

You're right Kim, it's funny how we all see things differently.

I've found a way to combat the extra hunger strikes I'm getting - I eat a small tin of tuna in spring water, skull a litre of water and eat an apple.

If I have to do that 2 or 3 times a day it won't hurt to much.

I am only a little but behind you as far as progress goes, keep up the good work!

Gosh that's a great dose of protein right there!!

Yeah, I drink water like I'm some kind of

fish but I always have lol. You're on the

right track for sure.

Hey Duchy. Just found your post. Good luck on your quit regime. Cold turkey worked for me and after 53 years. I quit drinking 38 years ago as a young man when I had two young children. Drinking and smoking for an addict are similar inasmuch as one drink or one cigarette puts us back where we started. My children and my wife really benefitted from my keeping off the booze. However , I was 67 when I quit smoking 18 months ago. Late rewards perhaps but some of the best. Good luck
