SO ANGRY...!

Posted in Getting started
schedule 30 Jan 2017

I am on day seven of champix- I feel like I'm smoking oxygen.. And I'm so angry and snappy at every one. I have noticed the extreme anger since day 2 .. Whilst hurling abuse at my family.. I think I have lost more family members this week .. Then in my entire life.

I have been smoking for 15 years now- and I don't know if I'm breaking the habit.. Or the habit is breaking me.

I FEEL SO EMPTY WITHOUT the pleasure I got from smoking.. It makes me want to give up champix just so I can get that RUSH from a morning ciggie break...

I truly hope I don't break with my addiction.. Oh yeah- the fact that I'm posting at 3am probably speak for itself in the sleeplessness department.

Oh dear! The withdrawal hits you real bad. Yes being angry and irritated is a major symptom. Believe me, I went through it... Keep it up, it will get much, much better...! I am at day 72 and honestly, cigarettes are just not in my mind

Thankfully I didn't experience what you describe, no anger, not snappy...actually I felt quite calm surprisingly. Almost as if I was finally taking control, not being controlled. Still really missed that morning cigarette, but each day gets easier. I tend to go to bed early so that I'm not thinking about a cigarette or having myself an unnecessary snack. I watch shows on my ipad and it takes my mind off the cigs. I find at day 9 of no smokes that it's the habit I'm missing, certainly not the taste or smell. I'm really noticing how bad they smell when I'm in the vicinity of someone who's smoking. Stick with it, get past the first week and see how different you feel. Good luck!

Hi, So Angry....!, When i started out i felt angry, frustrated and tempermental towards my friends, relatives etc. At one stage was told to take up smoking again. I had a form of envy towards people i saw smoking as if to say if it is ok for them why should'nt i smoke. But unfortunately i had to abstain from smoking for health issues. After smoking for 52 yrs it reached the stage where the fun was over for me. I know what you going through but in time with perserverance it will get much better and you will be your old self again and able to logically adjust to life. I have been quit for nearly 7 mths now and i even receive recognition from my still smoking friends. So time is the factor. Stay strong, perservere and say to yourself "i can do this". Nrt lozenges are helpful in first 8 weeks but then cravings diminish. Good luck and stay tuned.

Hi Angry, being angry is 1 of the many symptoms you will experience as your body is going through the withdrawal of the chemicals that have ruled everyday life as a smoker.

As you are also on Champix, this could also be a symptom of that drug....if you have major concerns, please get in touch with your Dr.

Unfortunately your family is copping the force of Cyclone Angry, but right now its gotta be all about you getting over the initial stage of withdrawal and out of the comfort zone that your body was used to for the past 15 years.

Have the confidence within yourself that you can do it.

Keep us informed please, on how its going for you,

Post as often as you wish, we have all been where you are now so we understand.

Stick with it....ride out the emotional roller coaster, it's well worth it. I know how you feel when you say you feel empty without cigarettes. I do too. I was so used to lighting up as soon as I got up and made my coffee, as soon as I got in the car, as soon as I'd finished a meal, even while preparing the meal, whenever I had wine, watering the garden, even while vacuuming! Unbelievable....seems I was never or rarely without a cigarette. So yes, it's crazy hard to change the habit, but it can be done. Good luck!
