Day 1 was 3 days ago.... now today is Day 1 again

Hi all. Wow some really determined awesome people on this site! Well done to all of you! I have been a 40 a day smoker for 36 years and the last few months I attempt to stop every second or third day..... and bust within a few hours each time. I want to breathe freely. I don't want to stink. I can't afford them and I let that nico devil rule my every waking moment. They are just killing me. I have given up quite a few addictive drugs but this nico seems to be the hardest to get rid of. The smallest amount of stress ...boom I smoke. Obviously have all the usual habitual stuff... on the phone, after eating, driving etc but seriously I'm totally over it. I really need all the support I can get. HELP! Any advice from those who have stayed quit? Thanks for reading my ramble.

Hey Hippychick, I hear your frustration, I hated it so much when I quit, I felt like a smoking machine- constantly lighting up yet not quite satisfied. I was getting to the point where I thought I would have to start chain smoking just to satisfy the cravings. I'm on 116days smoke free and I feel amazing. In saying that it was a very hard road I travelled and I was a ranting raving lunatic. I hated everyone, everything and I could even find reasons to hate air. I was an angry, nasty woman. I kept so busy, cleaning, sorting, games, crosswords, puzzles, colouring, walking, eating, singing, crying, organising, cooking, shopping - everything I could think of to not be idle.. I also tried to keep my sense of humour and recognised my craziness was nicotine cravings.
I wish you the best of luck, you need to be committed and stubborn.

Hi Hippy chick.....we all help each other on this site but you need to be committed. It will not be easy. Ask yourself 2 questions and if you honestly answer YES then welcome.
(1) Am i serious about quitting?
(2) Do i have a good reason to quit?
NRT lozenges really help. Good Luck.

Thank you so much For your comments. Yes Cranky76 that's how I get when I try to quit however I have SUCCEEDED day 1 fully, which I'm grateful for. Great tips thanks. I will try keeping myself busy. And Johnnies, yes is my answer to both questions. I have used the nicibate mini lozenges today and they are great when I get to breaking point. I bought some thisorning and have been smoke free all day. I know the journey ahead will be difficult and insane but I know it will all be worth it. Thank you both!!!!

Cranky76 ... By the way WELL DONE on 116 days! That's awesome work! How long have you been smoke free Johnnie?

Hi Hippychick, just on 127 days after 52 yrs smoking. With the lozenges start with halves and work down to quarters as i did. I find a full lozenge creates bad hiccups. Goid kuck and keep tuned.

To be honest, the more you try (and each time you give all you have trying to quit..) the bigger the chance that you will manage this time.... This really helped me not to get frustrated when I slipped.... So now day 8... and still no slipping... its hard..
