Trauma and mental health

I started smoking when I was 19 due to the murder of my grandma and the increased mental health problems I have. This is my first time quitting. I'm nervous

Hi Bonnie and welcome. We are all here for one reason, to give up smoking, we all started for different reasons, but the outcome is the same, we are smokers and want or need to give up. Try not to look at the big picture, it is far too overwhelming, just take one hour/day at a time, and each cigarette not smoked a step on your journey. I use this site as my distraction and i come here to read, comment and post when ever the craving strike it really helped me. Good luck you can do it

Hi Bonnie. Congratulations on deciding to quit! I cant imagine how awful your grandmother's murder was for you..... I too have had some trauma in my life, and have spent far too long not truly valuing myself... quitting is, for me, a huge step to changing that. It does mean I have to rely on other ways to cope with Depression, Anxiety, and stress, but Im tired of just relying on the very expensive, antisocial, anti health cigarettes on which I have relied for 40 years.
Be kind to yourself- you deserve it!
