Scared I will fail

Hi ....

I have been a smoker for almost 15 years.... since i was 17 .... strange thing is that i also suffer extremely bad health anxiety and general anxiety and panic attacks and have been on medication for that for longer than i have been a smoker!!! I genuinely fear death everyday :( YET i smoke everyday go figure!!!!!! Well today i start another quit attempt... i have thrown out all ashtrays smokes lighters and using the inhaler.... but i am EXTREMELY anxious for some reason.... i actually found myself wondering could the inhaler be bad for me? Could i be allergic 2 it ( i have a huge issue with fearing anaphylaxis) i don't want to fail cause of my anxiety and fears because even when i smoke i fear death everyday :( i am unable to get smokes at all til Monday due to deliberately spending all my money on inhalers so i couldnt just go out and buy more? Is that a bad way 2 stary? Sorry if my post seems all over the place I am veey anxious

what ever works :)

I think all smokers are a bit high strung its probably why we turn to smoking cause it does relive anxiety but then it typical drug form what it relives it then makes worse.

sneaky thing it is !!

cant help with your fears but can say its possible to stop with anxiety problems as I have those stopping helps lesson that over time !!

hang in there do one day or one craving at time and yes you can do it and the only time we fail is when we stop stopping stopping.

My first day today and I'm so happy abut it. I hear what you're saying and I feel demotivated at times and that's why I love this site because hearing peoples stories really motivates me, so hang in there. We're all in the same boat!

Hi Jemz. Take a deep breath, flower, in for 4 counts, hold for 4, out for 6. Do you realise how brilliant you are? You've decided to stop. That's a tough one and yet you've done it. I think perhaps you need to speak with someone about your anxiety if you're not any further forward than you were 17 years ago. I will ask a few stupid questions now: Have you tried meditation? Tai Chi? or counselling? or even going to a nutritionist to check out if anything you're eating can be altered. I'm no doctor, so I'll not advise on any particular course of action for that, but it seems a shame that you're not enjoying life. I'm sure these are all things that you've considered, so feel free to call me an idiot.

The thing is that the nicodemon creates fear, as it doesn't want you to stop smoking. IC is right, it is really sneaky. I'm afraid you need to face the fear, perhaps visualise it as someone you don't like and, in your head, push it over. Perhaps chant silently, mine was "you have no power over me". Stay busy, get a list of things that will act as distractions and perhaps some sugar-free gum. Would you consider starting to run or walk? Keep posting on here and let us know how you're getting on. Use this site as somewhere to vent. We are here for you. You're stronger than you think. If we can do this, so can you.
