Just about to start taking Champix as really want to give up smoking after a 20 year habit, did manage before to give up as needed a particular surgery and the doctor wouldnt perform surgery if I was still a smoker, sadly succumbed a year later back to smoking.

Determined this time to quit, any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated x

Hi Jules, so many people on here to support you along this new path you've decided to take. Stay busy, keep a list of things "to do" as a distraction and to keep focused. Take each hour at a time, then each day and so on until you feel safe doing so. Get fit, exchange a bad habit for a good one (I wouldn't recommend joining a gym, it's too easy to stop going) perhaps try running, it's free once you have some training shoes - which you would have needed for the gym anyway!!!!! Breath in some fresh air and enjoy being alive. You will soon feel like a new person!!!! Well done and keep going. Also keep posting on here, I love hearing people's stories

Hi Jules, Stay determined and focused and believe that you can succeed!!! Drinking lots of water & herbal teas seemed to help me. I also use delaying tactics and deep breathing until the craving / thought passes. I'm also trying to stay active even if it is just a little walk around the office or few squats and push ups at home. Goodluck you can do it.

I rate my cravings from one to five, five being the most intense. I do not have to action smoking thoughts, just rate them.

I am learning to handle one craving at a time. I have weaned myself. I am having a quit attempt starting from this afternoon.
