I have 2 daughters with my 6 year old telling me for months that smoking is bad for you and I don't want you to die..so the thought to quit was implanted. 2 weeks ago I had surgery on my ear and the anethetist told me I have the lungs of a 70 year old!! (scary when your only 41). So that was it after my recovery from op today I started Champix with the strong thought of wanting to quit. Today is day 1 atleast its a start. wish me luck and good luck to all of you too...

Ive just checked in after awhile and realized I'm day 165. I did it w champix and I'm glad to say the side effects were minimal. You may not have any issues but here's a few tips just in case. Try to take it no later than 4pm and w a snack, helps w the nausea and vivid dreams. I am overweight and while i was taking Champix my appetite didnt increase and I didnt feel the need to eat instead of smoking, so I lost weight. I did the complete 3 month course and when Id finished I didn't crave ciggies but started looking for 'just something little' you know to finish off a meal! Unfortunately I put back on all the weight but hey, I'm not smoking and hardly ever think about it now. So all in all Champix was great for me, I hope its great for you too. Good Luck.

Hi all, good luck Tracie 74 everyone has to start somewhere. I started on Zyban and was on them for 2 weeks before my quit day which was Tues 5th so I am 2 days smoke free, I am really struggling, and pacing and crying lots. Both my husband and daughter smoke so I am trying to move away from them when they light up, they do smoke outside, I am not really craving a smoke it seems more like the habit part stressing me, ie. After a coffee/ meal etc, any hints would be appreciated.

Hi Tracie74, welcome to the success that is this site. The first 48 hours are tough, there's no sugar-coating it but that makes it better. It means that once you get through those first two days you don't want to have to go through it again and you appreciate your hard work all the more. You CAN do this, we know you can and so do you. Stay busy (with a 6 year old I bet that's not a tough one either), have goals like: at the end of the week you and your child go for tea and buns to celebrate. In the mean time take it slowly, feel proud of each hour you don't smoke. Sugar free gum and racing round the garden with your child will distract you. Keep posting, let us know how you get on.
