I don't normally go on forums, but after reading some of the story's that have been posted I decided to tell mine. I have been a smoker for 30+ years and have made numerous attempts at giving up, using different methods, but I did not seem to have the right mind set. After reading some of the other stories and comments, I now feel more confident that I can make it this time. I started on champix a week and a half ago and today I made a start to being smoke free and being a better and healthier person

well done guppy, we all need some support here for those of us who are that way inclined :)
my mate stopped not long after me I bring up smoking he doesn't want to talk about it , what its been like quitting etc.. just changes the subject and says I don't want to talk about it.
for me shoving my head in the sand never worked , but hey it just proves we all deal with life a bit different.
so glad you can share with us we all need each others stories here to gain some strength and to keep going and no ones story is any more important than yours, and mine its a huge thing and to hide it is a mistake in my view.
well done and hope to hear about day 2 :)

Excellent news, guppy, what an exciting few days you will have. That realisation that life doesn't stop when you stop smoking, in fact it starts and excels into a more interesting, exciting time. I don't know anything about Champix but a number of people use it on here and they are the best at advice in that area.
I'm very excited for you. Stay positive, keep busy and have some sugar free gum to hand. Plus log on to this site and it will distract you when the moments hit.

Hello and welcome guppy. Congrats and well done...your first day to freedom. One day at a time and small steps.
I am also on Champix and 27 days smoke free...there is no looking back now. I am weaning myself off at the moment, almost done and feeling fantastic. Good luck on your journey and keep reading and posting on your progress.

I have decided to give up smoking but I am terrified that I will replace them with food. I already need to get rid of my weight I have now. It really worries me.
