Quitting for all the right reasons.

I found this site after my research online to fine support. I am currently trying to quit a 15 year addiction. I am currently in the process of pre op for weight reduction surgery and I have to be nicotine free for my insurance to cover the procedure. I want to want to quit and stay clean forever but for now I want to be smoke free for 1 day. I have found many tools online to get passed the first 3 days, which they say is the hardest. I have straws to chew on, phrases to say to myself, gum, mints, etc...but I just can't throw those cigarettes out...I feel anxiety without them. That is my latest struggle. I have cut my daily count down by more than half but I still have nicotine in my system. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

that's what no one see's is the inter struggle or fight if you will that goes on for most of us before we put down the last cigarette.

it really is an inside job!

no one can give it to me, no one can make me, no one can do anything.

what we can do is arm ourselves with the facts and as many tools as we can find as you have done.

the lies about smoking we have told ourselves to keep smoking are the things that most block us from stopping, confronting those demons for want of a better word is what some may call a moment of clarity where we see the truth.

sounds like you are getting closer and the closer we get to total surrender the more worn out we feel until it just clicks and we are done.

that's about how it happens I think, well at least it was like that for me.
