Not There Yet

Hi penelopejane. Have seen your posts on this site before and am sad to hear you weakened and now have to start again and finding it a struggle to quit. So much easier to get the first few days out of the way and then to look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel.
Failure is a step on the path to success; forgive yourself and prepare for next time

If you can white knuckle through one hour, you can do two and then you will get a day behind you, two days and then more and more. If I may have some artistic license - Nicotine is a like a screaming demon especially with long term or heavy smokers. When we quit taking any forms of nicotine, we hear him screaming at the top of his voice and when he screams like that, we must remember we are addicts, not smokers. When we continue smoking or feeding our addiction we don't hear him shouting because he is happy that he still has full control over us. As IC quoted earlier, "you can't be little bit pregnant"
Its great that you are trying, even if you only did one hour. I'm sure in that hour you heard the demon screaming. Now you know who the enemy is so don't quit fighting and trying. He is scared sh**tless that you'll find out who he really is.

Thanks for posting, penelopejane. Feel your pain at another attempt to quit. It is so hard- if it was easy none of us would be here. There must be something that will allow you to get through those first few days when your brain is just saying give me nicotine. You are better than this evil drug. It really is all in our minds. I can say that with conviction as I have done it a few times going to visit non-smoking friends(who didn't know I smoked). Three days away, no nicotine, no climbing the walls. Home, back to a stressful workplace - what did I do ?. I smoked. Yet again.
You can do this. Nicotine never solved any problems - it just delays them. Big time. And they are harder to deal with. In the fog of smoke.
Hope this helps you on your journey to start again. It is just wonderful that you are giving it a go. Keep posting.
