Um, what happened to sleep?

So this is day 7 of the cold turkey quit and I've just woken up at 12:30am feeling like it's 7am and I'm ready to start the day, full of energy and clarity. Great feeling - except it's way, way too early to do anything practical! Anyone else had a weird sleep pattern after quitting?

Yes Jack.......your body is going through so many transitions, and its going to take awhile for it to settle down....its had a big major shock happen... your sleeping pattern is just 1 of them. When you wake up? Are you craving for a smoke?
Day 7....you are doing great

Thanks Jenno, I always have a bit of a pang to smoke a few minutes after waking up but I don't think it was what actually woke me up. It was more like my body was just ready to start the day super early. I guess, as you said, it goes to show the major physiological changes that happen once the nicotine has left your system. I ended up taking a 5mg melatonin and slept through until 6:30am. Feeling pretty good today!

Good approach - more exercise would be wise for me too, already added a kilo in a week anyway!!

I can't sleep at all and I'm so tired and I blame it on the patch, withdrawal and all the changes I'm going through. I remember this happening to me the last time I quit. I'm on Day 8 but struggling, wish I could find some energy, think a lot is depression too..oh well I know things will get better with time..

Well, one thing you don't need when you're relying so heavily on your willpower and mojo, is to not be sleeping. I went to the chemist and told them about the lack of sleep and she didn't hesitate - she grabbed a box of 'Sleep Right' pills and said take one at night for two nights, then half at night for the rest of the week. Works a treat and I sleep great. They are a real drug not a herbal (it is Doxylamine) but not habit forming. I feel a little drowsy for the first 20 mins after waking up, but it has really settled my nerves and helped me through the day cold turkey after having slept a full night!
