Champix vs depression

So I took my first champix this morning, within an hour it's all I can do to get myself out of the house and go to work - feel like I want to curl up in a ball and hide. Not sure if this is normal or not, is this a case of power through it and my body will adjust after a couple of days, or is this stuff messing with head

First of all, I'd like to say congratulations on taking your first steps towards quiting!

Now on to the Champix; I know a lot people who've struggled with some rather unpleasant side effects the whole time they were on Champix with many of them complaining of feeling depressed, nauseas, lethargic to the point of struggling to get out of bed and also reports of some very lucid dreams. If you notice any new side effects or if the feelings of depression don't ease or worsen within the next couple of days, go back to your doctor and asking for some alternative quiting aids.

Good luck!

Hi all, I took my first Champix yesterday morning. Was still wide awake at 4.30am this morning!! Took another this morning, head feels a bit wooly but apart from that no other side effects. Have been a smoker for 30 years and tried many times with NRT but only get to 9 weeks free and go straight back to the habit. Quit date is Sat 27th unless it just happens before!! Fingers crossed this time.

Hello Jazz, if you are having depression side effects this early it is only going to get worse, on day 1 you haven't even stopped smoking yet. Meaning you should not be feeling depression because you should not be going through withdrawal yet. Please see a doctor or stop until you are able to. Some of us are so focussed on our quit date we don't let these little hints let us realize something bad is about to happen. I myself had a bad experience with Champix. But was too young and nieve to believe this reaction could happen to me. I don't want to scare anyone so I won't share my story unless requested. Please play it safe.

Thanks for sharing your experience Lue

Good news is that day 2 of the champix had nowherr near the bad experience of the first day!!

So hopefully the champix won't intrude itself as much as it did yesterday and I can concentrate on the real purpose - quitting :)

After day 3 of champix, depression was an all time hi. Woke up this morning, didn't take my dosage and feeling great!!

Went and saw my GP and he highly recommended a different path for quitting - so I'm going to start a patch course.

I'm a little disappointed that the champix has had such an adverse affect on my emotions as I've read so many success stories associated with it!!

Unfortunately champix just isn't for everyone

This comes a bit late as a reply. But I've just finished my champix totally 12 + 8 weeks (if i remember correctly). I quit smoking after about 6 weeks which was a bit late, though I had reduced smoking a lot during those 6 weeks and finally it kind of was gone since there was absolutely zero urge to smoke since after maybe day 5 using those meds.

I did not get any nightmares or other sleeping problems.

But over the time I started to notice that I feel very inefficient and nothing doesnt seem to interest me much. I did figure out that it must be side effect, but since there were no suicidal thought or anything serious - just that my work performance SUCKED!

Now it is day 3 without champix and I can finally see how badly my work performance have been sucking last months and how badly i've been down. That is amazing how good it feels not using champix anymore.

I have no regreds using champix - I am glad that I made it thru and now there is really no urge to smoke anymore. So i'm really happy to feel that I've kicked out that decades long habit of smoking. I'm glad that I made it this long time, because now I had possibility to experience all the stuff without smoking (and without risk to start smoking again) i.e. going football games, going drinking, etc. stuff that would have been impossible to even think without a cig.

I just want to say that the champix really made me feel down, slow, stupid - most likely "depression" it the name for it. So be cautious with champix and hope that your boss will tolerate a couple of months sloppiness.
