Starting date of tomorrow on Champix

I have been thinking about quitting for a while now and just kept putting it off. Coming up with excuses etc. Yesterday whilst in the pharmacy I purchased the Nicorette inhalers and thought why not now. I am 40 years old and have smoked for 25 years. Have 4 kids (19, 17, 15 & 13). So I started in the inhaler and in 24 hours only using 2 inhalers I cut down from 40 cigarettes to 20. Today I went to the GP and he recommended Champix. So tomorrow will be my first day. I am hoping it kicks in and stops me from smoking almost immediately but not sure what to expect. GP said I should be completely smoke free within 2 weeks easily. Feeling really unsure but determined.

Hi Kat1975, congrats on your start of quitting smoking. I too am on Champix. I do have to wonder if your Doctor has ever smoked tho from their comment. Champix helps you to quit the habit. I got told that the drug does 90% of the quitting and you do the last 10% yourself. Not sure of those stats I must say. Be prepared for side effects from champix, but if you can - persevere - they do go away with time. Some are lucky, and have next to no side effects. I had lots! I am 3 weeks smoke free, still on champix, no side effects now from the drug, but still a constant battle with my brain every day. It can be done, and I wish you all the very best,my congrats on starting. I must say - not having to smell that stale tobacco smell is awesome! My skin is clearing and getting softer each day as well. Many pluses to quitting, just remind yourself of them constantly. Cheers.
