I have finally been encouraged by my new GP to start the journey toward no longer smoking cigarettes. I start tomorrow with the aid of medication, and ongoing support from Quitline and my GP.

Good luck to you! I hope you beat this horrible addiction. Think about all the money you will save and how much healthier you will feel!

You will have to do the hard yards yourself, but this site will give you the best support ever. More powerful than any drug, GP or anything / anyone else. I actually told my GP about this site and was impressed to see notes being taken... What do I know? 185 days cold turkey. With each new day, not a lot because it is a new day. Just persevere.

Thanks for your support, Lia and Caleb. It is an addiction for me and the only time I managed to stop in the past was when I was pregnant and my children were young. This time I'm doing it for me and for my grandchildren who see the horrible photos on my cigarette packets and ask me, 'Will that happen to you, Nan-Nan?' I can't lie, so when I say, 'Maybe.', the look of concern on their faces nearly breaks my heart. The 'extra' money will be great. I will be able to afford some little luxuries for my loved ones and myself and, yes, improve my health so I can dance at my grandchildrens' 21st's. Thanks again for your encouragement xxx

Its funny you mention the cig packet pictures. My little niece (5 years old) picked my gangarene smoke packet and asks me: whats this? I said thats what happens when you smoke. She looked up at me in confusion and said "then why do you smoke?" And I cant help but think, why do I smoke? If a 5 year old knows you shouldnt do it if that can happen to you, why do grown adults continue to do it? Well I hope you and I both can finally put the lighter down and toss the filthy habit for good!

That's the exact reaction I got from my grandson who's 4. Same photo too. Out of the mouths of babes huh? Let's resolve to beat our addictions for them, at least. I doubt if they want to lose us us or need to worry about us having toes turn black and amputated or the myriad of other serious health problems that can result from cininuing to smoke.
