Starting the long journey

Day 13 of my quit journey. The first few days were surprisingly easy but then I hit day 4 and the cravings really kicked in. I smoked one cig that I had left in a packet and it was ghastly.....thank goodness. Haven't had another one since. I am using Nicabates which I think really help with the cravings. Being on this site really helps as well, reading everyones stories and relating to almost all of them. So when I have a weak moment now, I just get on here for a bit of inspiration and support! Thanks to everyone for your stories of encouragement and support and all the luck in the world for a successful journey for all!

Your doing so good!! Im am on my 2nd day going cold turkey. It is tough! Stick with it and good luck!!

Keep going Vicki you are doing great. I know that everyone experiences different things when quitting but I want you to know that it does get easier. I am now on day 37. Not smoking has become my new normal. I am happy not smoking. I found the first week of not smoking really easy compared to what I had envisaged (much like your first three days that you describe). I thought to myself 'what's so hard about this?'. Then the cravings kicked in for me. Week two was the most awful week. I am ordinarilly a laid back and easy going sort of guy. During week two I was anxious a lot, I was miserable and I felt ill at times. While I was determined not to smoke, the thought of lighting up crossed my mind many times and I almost gave in. I didn't (it was many posts on this website that helped me through!!!). There were a few days on week three where I didn't feel flash but things started to get better and they are continuing to get better. I am now into week six and I can say that I feel like I am past smoking. I am so glad that I hung in there. While there will be danger times for me in the future that I have to guard against where the 'surely one won't hurt me' thoughts enter my mind (which is probably the case for all of us), I know now I am no longer physically addicted to cigarettes.

Good luck Kezza68, you can do it. That's when I decided to quit.....one day I needed a packet of cigs, but then I thought...NO, I am not going to waste another $26 on a packet of cigarettes, and I'm sick of how I feel, wheezing when I go to bed at night etc. There are only positives in the decision to give up, I can't believe the difference it made to my health almost immediately, and It's just amazing how much further my money goes these days. The only negative is the cravings and they are just that.....cravings. Be strong and work through them, I found using nicabates really helps. Thanks to Caleb, Threds, and jojie for your words of encouragement, they really mean a lot, and to Kristyann.....good luck, you can do it, the first couple of weeks are the hardest....exercise that willpower!
