schedule 31 Dec 2015

Hi all, I am starting my journey tonight, the (hopefully not) usual New Years resolution. I am almost 50 and have been smoking off and on, mostly on, since I was 12.This will be my 5th attempt and I plan On making it my last. The longest I have quit is about six months and that was cold turkey but this time I am going to try using patches. Anyone with experience with patches I would welcome any advice. Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side.

Congratulations on your decision to stop smoking. It's quite normal to have a number of attempts before you finally stop. I am a little older than you and had been smoking since I was 14. I also had a few attempts to stop smoking but, like you, this is absolutely my final attempt and I am determined not to ever smoke again. Here are my New Year's wishes for you and everyone here; may you never pick up and smoke another cigarette for the rest of your lives and may those lives be long, happy and healthy.

Hi Stickwalker. Good luck for the new year with your decision to quit. My experience with patches... In the year 2000 I booked a flight to Uluru flying with TAA. Big mistake... Flight was cancelled. I was about to board the plane and upon discovering the flight was cancelled headed for the nearest smoking area. Forgot I had on a patch and upon lighting up experienced heart palpitations. So scary. So, in the past, yes they pack a punch and work but don't warn you not to light up and to OD is not too difficult. 15 years later cold turkey has worked for the past 7 months. Note, always on guard and never out of the woods.
