Thanks, BigJon

This is the post I read on the 30th May 2015.
Thanks to BigJon I "discovered" Margaret Thatcher. From that moment on I stopped smoking and am up to day 164. Hope BigJon is still smoke-free. I am so glad I read his post on this site. That is the only bit of advice that worked. I am posting this because it seems people out there are still fighting their own cravings. Makes a difference when someone is actually TELLING YOU TO SMOKE. If someone else tells you to stop, you are probably more inclined to ignore the advice. If "someone" tells you to smoke you might actually say NO. Here is the post that turned my thinking around. And that half a carton is still sitting in the cupboard. It is not a temptation.

Have been smoke free for 1 week now - When the craving comes embrace it, talk to it, laugh at it - see it for what it is. I even give my craving a name (Margaret - after Mrs Thatcher) I can tell Margaret everyday exactly what I think of her. She and her ghost can do no more harm.
Just want to make a point about the TV adverts - I think they are counter productive - A positive advert from people who have quit- talking about their journey, their way of quitting, the positive things that have happened to them since quitting would be far more productive. Im only a week in but this time its for good.

awesome job, nearly half a year, bet your looking forward to the second half.
will be much easier even after 50 days the cravings are nearly non existent.
good old Margaret, who would have thought she was good for something atleast

I hadn't thought it before but can totally see that I would have been more inspired by positive quit stories than gangrene/mouth ulcer stories.
Wish the cravings would go altogether .,

Love this post, I absolutely agree.

Hi Lia
Thanks for your comment- I am so glad that it helped. I am still smoke free - Even this far along Margaret rears her ugly head once in a while - but her visits are much much rarer now.
I am sure this method of quitting could help many more people - I have told a couple of people about it - it’s helped some which is good.
