Take advantage of lower inclination to smake

Having smoked for over 50 years I noticed that whenever I got a cold (and let's face it, smokers have colds that hang around 'for ever'), I was inclined to not want to smoke because I didn't enjoy it. Often, you would also feel more miserable.
So that was my perfect scenario last July when I suffered from a 'ripper' of a cold. The three weeks of feeling lousy with the cold and using will-power and my illness to shun all cigs were not as
traumatic as I expected. I'm glad the cold was very bad because the less I was tempted. Now almost 6 months later - even though I have cravings every day, have not regressed. And the savings are spectacular - over $60 a week (I was 8-10 smokes a day). Cold turkey doesn't suit everyone but I wasn't impressed with putting nicotine into my body (with gum etc) in order to get it out!
Good luck everybody. Remember, there is NO one size fits all. You may have to make a number of 'false starts' until you find what suits you.

Congratulations on you success. Too bad NO one size fits all. Wouldn't it be so much easier for all to say no to the cravings given a reason or a strategy to do so? Meanwhile I just keep going cold turkey for the past 179 days and still cannot believe I have lasted so long.

Congratulations. I smoked for 38 years and have gone cold turkey as well. It has been hard at times but I also did not want to have any nicotine in my body. I wish there was a one size fits all but I find this site has been helpful in keeping me on track.
