1st attempt

I am 46 years old and had been smoking for 31 years. I smoked on average 12-13 per day. This is my first ever attempt at giving the smokes away. I set my quit day as Tuesday the 29/09 and had my last cigarette at 9.30pm on the 28/09 so am now into my 10th day since my last ciggy. I used patches up until the 4th day and then decided to go alone cold turkey. What a rollercoaster of a ride this is, one minute you're telling yourself this is easy and the next minute you want to kill someone for a drag, Hahahaa. Luckily my wife does not smoke and my Boss is giving them away as well with me so the workplace is basically smoke free also.

Well done - 10 days in is great - you should just be starting to feel the benefits of not smoking now - no coughing, smell coming back, plenty of time...?
It will really help having a smoke free workplace and home while giving up.
Keep us posted and let us know how you go mate..

We share a similar boat my first attempt thanks to my 6 year old's persistence. 14 days today smoke free and can relate to the roller coaster ride (not a big fan of roller coasters) one minute cool clam and determined the next Mr. Cranky pants! hanging out for a drag the physical withdrawal has sheen relatively easy it's the mind games that I find the hardest. Keep it up I took my daughter to the movies last weekend, shouted on cinema food and drink as a thank you for kicking dad up the butt to quit. Having extra money does help, not being a stinky daddy and boy does food taste great! Hang in there one day at a time leads to many smoke free. Cigarette company's don't need you're money you and your family do.

well done to both of you guys...keep it up and we can all beat this stinking demon together...day 17 for me so just a whisker ahead of you guys so will let you know wats ahead...lol...keep that voice at bay, keep telling it theres no way im having a ciggy and it does go away*( comes back though)and next time it goes away, comes back, etc,etc but each time your winning and not giving in to that voice which keeps making you stronger...anyway enough ramble, my thoughts, keep up the good work and stay strong

Well, got home from work this arvo and spent the past 2 hours putting a new trampoline together. I've had about 4 beers and would normally have had about 5 ciggies doing this sort of task. I would love to have a smoke but keep telling myself i would be back to square 1. Toughing it out for now, this site certainly helps and i need all the encouragement i can get. Cheers guys.

Hi Good2quit well done on 10?days that huge getting to double digits next you will be aiming for the big two weeks. All I can say is don't give the patches up too early they are so good if you are having a bad craving day , still better than smoking . Well done and keep posting x

hi good2quit, I like a beer or 7 and have found its the hardest part of giving up smoking is the drinking...lol... I have been walking around with a pocket full of cashew nuts when having a beer and its definitely getting easier,,,,dare I say

Very similar cirumstances mate. I was 45 when I gave it away and I had smoked for 29 years and around 12 - 15 smokes per day. Am now nearing 2 years smoke free. It does get easier. Good luck and keep it going. Taking up daily exercise will assist greatly
