Starting Day 6

Today is my 6th day without a cigarette, I am trying cold turkey - accept for the 101 lollies I am eating as a go between. I have read how so many people have thrown their cigarettes in the bin - for me I have a half packet that is hidden in my car and I can't throw it away yet - it kind of feels like my security blanket, knowing it is there, however having the will power to leave it there. I guess in some ways if there is any lapse of judgement, I want to know that I don't have to buy a whole packet of cigarettes because if I do then it would seem like a waste of money to only have one and I would most likely continue which would defeat the last few days so the packet sits there and I know it is there but that I have the strength over it for now and hopefully always.

Hi mitchduncan well done on your 6 days smokefree. I am on day 8. You are stronger than I am being able to have ciggies around, I would have had the lot by now...lol, but it works for you and we each need to do what works for us. Have a wonderful day.

Hi Mich I understand where you are coming from having the packet of darts at home.actually I think it is a true test of character especially in those moments when you "Just Want One" .you must be very strong to resist those moments .i kept a half a pack on one of my quit attempts , however I wrapped heaps of sticky tape around them so that if I wanted to have a just "oner" it was going to be a huge job to open the packet.anyway you will be celebrating a full week today so Well Done.

Yes, great strength there Mich. Not only could I not have a packet in the house but I couldn't have any dirty ashtrays either coz I would just go through it in desperation - sooo gross! I wasted so much money, buying packets, having one or two then throwing the whole packet only to buy another in the next few days and repeating the same thing over again. I did this many times! I thought what a waste but then at least they were in the bin and not in my lungs. I like the sticky tape idea Nannette, however back then if I wanted one I don't think any amount of tape would have stopped me. ha ha Well done Mich and thanks for sharing, keep going.

Thanks, it does help that I think my daughters puppy has a smoking problem and half of them are in pieces :-)
