day 1

This is it. After 40 years a smoker, today is the day I am going to quit.

I only ever smoke @ home. Problem is when I started working from home, it didn't take long to go from 4 a day to a whole packet! I realize I will never have the willpower to stop myself from having a smoke if there are smokes around...I have to quit. I fully intend being a pain in the neck and thoroughly cranky to those in my immediate surroundings,(the dog being the only exception) Every time I feel a craving I'm going to stop what I'm doing and do some squats or sit-ups. When I feel like yelling at the four walls, I jolly well will, and when things get really bad there's always the sledge hammer and the front deck that needs to be ripped apart.

As the saying goes "the best laid plans...etc.etc."

Wish me luck

Good luck sprite. Turn to us for support and be strong. It is good you are aware and accepting you will be a pain as it takes away one of the excuses to return to smoking. Trust me you will feel fantastic and proud of yourself for every day you get through.

Sprite, best wishes for the next 2-3 weeks (the hump time where being a cranky pants is mandatory!) Every time I got a craving (I'm day 29 today smoke free from being a smoker for 36 years)I would say out loud " you (cigarette)are not going to win....I will win" For some reason this tactic worked, and the craving subsided instantly. Go figure
