Day 5 - Aaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh !!!!!
After 25 years, I just decided to quit on the spot, Monday morning.
Not sure if no set quit date or preparation is a good idea or not but so far so good.
I found myself coming to this site over and over during the
week to read the stories of others, which has helped, knowing
that I'm not alone. Only other smokers really know what it's
like, non smokers really have no idea and people who still smoke don't want to know.
Sorry that there are no great insights in this message, I just needed to get something off my slightly less tight chest, which has made
me feel slightly better, I could really go for a smoke now........

Hey there 2 Pack, congratulations on day 5! I gave up in exactly the same way, no prior planning or preparation, I'd have bailed at the last moment I'm sure. Funny, it was on a Monday too, and I first posted on day five, just checked back in "my stories". I found my determination to stay quit, very tentative at first, really grew with each passing day, and through some pretty challenging times. I've found this site invaluable, just reading other people's stories and feedback can help you stay grounded. And you know what? That feeling of a slightly less tight chest becomes the sheer pleasure of being able to take deep luxurious breaths, and simply enjoy them...

Day 5 - you're doing fantastic! No need to give us any great insights just yet, your just beginning, take as much advice from here as you can. We are all here to help and listen to you. I wrote a lot here in my first few weeks, all my frustrations etc... I found it so helpful, just to write, write, write & read, read, read. ahhhh...Dottily...I find myself often with a big proud smile on my face when I take one of those breaths. I sometimes forget to breath and still take continuous shallow breaths then remember and I take the biggest breath I can, and sigh a relief, that's when the smile comes in. It's such a joyous relief! Good luck 2 Pack!

Thanks Dottily and Bronte.
Nice to know there are two people out there forcing themselves to read my drivel.
Cheers.

Hey 2 Pack, it's not drivel, it's honesty, and just taking a few minutes to post a message here can get you through a craving. And Bronte, love reading your posts and responses to others'. Breathe deep and stay strong!

Keep up the good work.. You got past day 3, which for me was one of the toughest.

Hey there, CONGRATS... and you are right, no one other than another smoker understands what you are going through.. I'm on day 18.. things are much calmer. I loved my ciggies and I don't think I'll ever call myself a non-smoker, just someone who chose not to smoke today. Everything is going well except for the side effects (or at least I think they are side effects) which I posted a story about today. Keep up the good work. This site really helps

Hey 2 pack, good on you. I didn't set a quit date when I decided to quit. I had what I call a light bulb moment when I just knew I wanted to quit. So here Iam 10 weeks later and loving life. the members on this site help heaps keeping me motivated and I hope you can find the same for yourself here. So keep pushing yourself, keep rewarding yourself, keep at it and never look back. You can do it.

Hi 2 pack, your post made me smile,at your honesty. Your right , non smokers think "just stop" easy. get over it!!! It's not easy and I have to work hard to get over many many years of happy smoking. I didn't tell anyone that I was quitting (only hubby and 2 really close friends) as I didn't want people saying "oh I didn't think you could do it" well u know what I can, I have made it to 5 weeks and 4 days and proud. I don't smell anymore, my breath is fresh and I no longer have to go outside on my own to smoke woo too keep up the great work and don't worry about posting when u are negative , we have all been there and that is what this site is about
Keep up the good work! I applaud you doing it by yourself. I have smoked also for 25 years and needed Champix to quit, i am really glad i did... now at 5 weeks no smoking and it feels great!
