Stress and Depression are my biggest triggers

I'm 17 almost 18 been smoking since I was 15, and I know that's not a very long time, but it's already taken a toll on my body. My biggest trigger is stress and depression. I'm currently completing year 12 and will very shortly be taking my HSC. I've just finished my half yearly exams and I smoked 3x more during that week than I normally do due to stress, I guess at this point in time I just looking for other ways to cope with my stress and depression other than smoking. Any tips or advice ?

I'm pretty impressed with you Ash, wanting to give up already at such a young age is so great. It doesn't matter how old you are smoking still does take it's toll. It's so good that you're aware of this. Unfortunately when I was your age I didn't think that way at all, I was so disturbed back then I didn't really care. Now at 42 though, I surely do care, don't let yourself get to your 30's or 40's and have to deal with it then. Do it now! Stress, depression & anxiety is my problem too but after 4 days of NOT smoking I find I am actually less stressed, the very act of smoking brings you down because your annoyed at yourself for doing it which automatically gets you down anyway. I'm finding when I sit with my coffee or my glass of wine or whatever & smoke, I'm sitting dwelling on stuff that's negative, I'm concentrating on my problems & that makes me stress more. If I'm not doing that I'm not bringing myself down about the stresses in my life. I go for a walk instead & breath in the fresh air & pat myself on the back for being good, that makes me feel happy. I've been doing my excercises again, also makes me feel good plus meditating & positive affirmations. Google or go & buy Louise Hay's CD - You can heal your life. Now there's an inspirational woman! I guess what I'm saying is my advice is just to do & watch lots of positive stuff, like the secret or Wayne Dyer or Deepak Chopra or whatever, there's so many out there, CD's, books etc....all this stuff will keep you positive and will help deal with stress and show you different ways to live your life in a positive way! I know it's so hard but take it from someone who has 42 years of experience dealing with stress & depression, it's been a life long mission to deal with it and it may keep coming back to haunt you but there are strategies around it if you are willing to try. Good luck.
