gaining weight when you quit?

im a officially quitting smoking tomorrow! i have thrown all my ash trays, papers, lighters, etc in the bin! i have been saying im gonna quit for a while now but am proud to say that im finally gonna do it BUT im just nervous about gaining weight... ive recently lost 10kilos and am worried about putting it back on because ive heard alot of people say you gain weight when you quit... tips anyone?

great news, go for the quit. be careful what you eat, if you don't change your eating habits you will be fine. Be kind to yourself, why do something harmful to yourself when you are working towards healing - i have been gaining weight gradually over the past few years, but since i quit (17 days ago) i have been eating better too, no alcohol for a start as that has been my big slip up juice, the i don't care factor. Give it a go and watch what you eat you will feel fab for it. i do.

I have not had a smoke for a month now, and have gained weight !at least 5kg,
but I can lose that later, by exercising and diet, I am more concerned that I stay off the smokes. I feel great ,so much more energy and saving $170.00 a week. Also I am proud of myself. So do your best ,one day at a time.

Hi By Mississy, I quit 2 years ago and have put on 10kg. I am a male and have not changed my eating habits. I do not know why it happens. I have not tried to diet and I was a big guy to start with. I could try to reduce the excess but I am 71 years of age and I do not care, but still feel good. It is amazing smoking keeps weight off, but it is better to be clean.

thanks for your comments guys!
i recently lost 10 kilos before i quit and i dont wanna put it back on so i will definately be watching what i eat and keeping active to keep mind off smoking and eating. fingers crossed and well done to you guys for achieveing your goals! :)
