Alrigthy he I go!! I have decided to quit and today is my day!! I had 1 cigarette at 5am this morning and it's now 14h28. This day is sooooooo long and I am craving for a smoke. Is it better to stop cold turkey or do you think I must just cut down first?

I must say I need to pull this one through. It is just so expensive and bad on my health, coughing everyday of my life!!)

Please encourage me?

I am in a similar position. I just had a cigarette then, however after a long weekend of chain smoking away with some girlfriends along with some wine, I just feel terrible. Coughing and out of breathe and when I went to wash all my clothes realising the stench of the smoke has also put me off to try quitting again. We can help each other! How did you go the rest of the day?

Good for u Jamilu, you've made the decision so u are half way there! Based on my experience, I would recommend champix, unless of course you have super strong willpower and want to go it on your own! :). I smoked for 35 years and tried to quit more times than I can count. Like you I even made deals with myself like I can smoke on Fridays or Saturdays only. The problem was I always ended up back full time smoking. I guess we have to think of ourselves as addicts - no different than an alcoholic, we can't have just 1! So, I went on champix and I am now 21 days smoke free! Now champix does have its negative side effects but as far as managing the cravings it is quite amazing! If u decide to go this route i would suggest taking the pills with a meal, that really seems to help the nausea ( but not everybody gets side effects so u. might be fine!). I took champix for 14 days and then stopped smoking and I was really ready by day 15. I view quitting as a huge event so I did all the prep I could, being on champix for 2 weeks also allows you to mentally prepare at the same time as it is physically turning you off smoking. Of course you will see lots of options on this site so you just have to pick the one that is right for you! I wish you all the best!

Hi there

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I must say I feel fine. I am now on Day 2 and I am very proud. Unfortunately I can not take Champix as I am taking other meds which won't agree with it, so I will just HAVE to use the will power method. I have been on Allen Carr'smethods a few years again and after listening to his cd's I stopped immediately for almost 2 years. Then one night, having a few drinks I tried a cigarette and realised how yuk it was and told myself I will never smoke again, but then in 2 weeks I did the same etc and eventually ended up smoking full time again. Anyway it's quite cold at the moment with the winter so I do not feel like going outside having a smoke - I'd rather stay inside at the fireplace :-)

Thanks guys

I would like to say go..cold turkey !! I was a heavy smoker pack a day, you can do it !! anybody can its just a matter of willpower all that medication and e-cigarettes is to help but not doing anything just masking your cravings, I tried to stop a couple of times before but i never really wanted to quit so i failed , it was just a couple of weeks ago that i started to enjoy the cigarettes less and less till a point that i was.. Fu.Ck it never again, see personally i think thats the key to quit smoking you really really have to want to quit otherwise its just not going to happen. over 20 years of smoking and now 18 days without cigarettes first 3 days thats the hardest after that you will feel better just 3 days thats all you need to be free for the rest of your life :)
