My Dad

I still remember Dad, shovel in hand, digging out the mud of not yet finished family pool. It had rained so much that it had filled up twice causing the clay walls to  collapse. Digging away with his beloved pipe hanging from his mouth, the sweet smell of Port Royal drifting through the air. This was the day he decided to quit. Right there and then. Cold Turkey. I was 12 and he 42. The pipe is still buried under the pool somewhere. Unfortunately I lost my dad to Heart Attack in April ant the age of 71 so when it was time to honour his birthday last week I couldn't think of a better way than to Quit once and for all.

I've done it twice before. The first, I had all four wisdom teeth out and being a big sook was too scared it would cause more pain. Cold tukey and lasted 2 years till I split with my long term partner. The second time I locked myself away from the world for 3 weeks except for work where there were no smokers. Patches and chewies, lasted 3 years, then at a club a friend asked me to hold her ciggarette for her and without even realising I smoked it. I tried once more with Champix but along with the cost it made me sooooo sick that I just couldn't function.

So here I am again, On Champix but this time I'm taking anti-nausea tablets and while it does still upset my tummy its only mildly for about an hour. 10 days in and yesterday I only had 1 rollie over the whole day.

What a fitting tribute to your dad, he would be proud of you! The champix will definitely help you, try taking it with meals, that really helped me a lot. Stay strong and remember why you doing this! But do it for yourself as much as for your dad. You can do it! All the best to you!

My Dad wants me to quit. He wants it for me. He quit when I was born, but then, that's what Mum has told all eight of us. My Dad is ninety. I really should do a dedication too. He is precious. He wants the best for me that life can offer.
