Hi all. I am a pack a day smoker of 5 years. I am on day 2 of champix. I am not feeling anything yet and I am still smoking as much as i usually have. Can any of you relate to this or know when the cravings will ease off? Thanks.

Hi Nathan congrats on making the decision to quite - so smart! Especially doing it now and not after 35 years of damaging your lungs and spending tens of thousands of dollars ( that's me!) . I am on day 30 smoke free using champix, it really does help! I took champix for 14 days and then quit and by then i couldn't even enjoy a cigarette! I found after the first week I started to enjoy them less and less, so just keep up with the pills and soon you will be on your way to feeling and smelling :) so much better! Use this site, lots of great people to cheer you on and give suggestions. Best of luck to you!

Hi

I had my last cigarette 2 years ago yesterday. I used Champix. I found after a few days that I would have a smoke but got no kick from it and suddenly it just didn't seem worth while. I can't explain the feeling but it just suddenly becomes a waste of time to try and smoke. So I stopped. Not too long after I decided that it wasn't worth taking the champix but interestingly if I had a craving I would take a single tablet and the craving would go away. I know that is not what is recommended but it is what worked for me. I know several people who quit with Champix. Stick with it and know that one day soon you will realise that smoking is really not that important anymore. Two years on and I haven't had so much as a drag. I have dreamt that I have smoked and woken up and almost cried with relief that it was just a dream. The feeling of not being tied down to a box of cigarettes is amazing. Wishing you all the best :-)

I wish I'd have given them up after 5 years too! But I'm a person who had smoked for a huge percentage of the last 29 years!

Today is day 50 off cigi's and all nicotine. Cold Turkey is what worked for me in the end. But what ever works for you is all good too!

Hi Nathan, I am a similar story to KAM and am also smoke free from using Champix. Carry on smoking as normal because that is how the drug initially works and soon the cigarettes will become unpleasant to smoke and you will naturally reduce the quantity you smoke until you stop and you will. You are on a very important and worthwhile journey to becoming smoke free and you have the best wishes and support of so many of us on that journey with you. Keep it up.

Hi Nathan - and all the commenters, because you are helping me as much as Nathan!

I'm on day 9 of Champix, and on day 2 (and 3,4,5,6) felt like you do now. But the message which I've taken on board is 'keep taking the tablets!' They seem to get into people's systems at different rates, so I'm just going with the flow, trusting they are doing their job. I am still smoking, but generally just 1/2 a cig and not nearly as many as before Champix, so I'm sure they are already taking effect and one day soon I genuinely won't want one at all. I trust the same thing happens for you. Stick with the course, and good luck!
