Trying to quit smoking

Posted in Getting started
schedule 5 Apr 2014

I have tried to quit smoking several times since 2007 since I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I struggle and haven't been able to do it. I have 3 grandchildren now and I really want to be free from this smoking. I quit this morning, I put a patch on and I keep saying to myself " I have to do it this time and I want to be free from smoking". Smoking seems to run my life, I'm always thinking when I can have my next one. I have stopped smoking in the house since October because my husband had a heart attach and he was a smoker and hasn't had a cigarette since his heart attack. He does so good and I really want to be a nonsmoker along with him and be able to continue living life. I found this site and I'm hoping when I struggle I can get some help!!!

I am drinking water and eating lots of vegetables and I was a 40 a day smoker. Thanks to Champix that is now only 2 maybe 3 a day. I have just been diagnosed with COPD so my life depends on my ablilty to win the Nicotine war. Only week 3 but I am getting there....Yes its hard but for your healths sake try to stop.... visualise burning a $20 note each time you want to light up

Just keep trying, you need to find what works for you. Stop doing everything that triggers your smoking, coffee, alcohol, anything like that and find something to distract you, craft or a jigsaw puzzle. Good luck.

I'm on day 5, I still haven't had a smoke but really struggling..I keep saying to myself if I have one now I have to start back at day 1 again and it has seemed to take along time to get to day 5 so I haven't relapsed yet. I'm on the patch so I sure that is helping me. I keep saying to myself "I'm on non-smoker and I'm going to be free".
