Just had to do it...

This year I will be 50.  I have been smoking since I was 18.... I know, as most smokers do, that it is not good for me... I have been playing with the idea of quitting, but only half heartedly as I actually enjoyed smoking, for the most part anyway.

I have recently moved with my family to Australia.... My birthday present to myself is to fly my brother over from England for my 50th birthday.  He said he would only come if I stopped smoking for at least 6 months before my birthday.... That didn't happen... But on Monday 7 April at about 8.30 I had my last smoke.  I hadn't smoked much that day anyway and I hadn't enjoyed the cigarettes I had smoked.  When I put out that last cigarette I actually felt quite sick.  I said out loud I can't keep doing this and I haven't smoked since.... There have been a few times when I have either had an extra strong craving, or the situation has been a stressful situation where I would automatically light up and on these occaions, which were maybe four or five times,  I have had a couple of puffs of my e-cigarette.  Other than that, I have used no patches, gum, mints, sprays or medication of any sort.... I really am quite proud of myself. :)

Keep your pride beefed up. Your worth it. I am sure your Brother won't hold you to ransom forever. It would be nice for Him to have a smoke free holiday. Most people find quitting is something they have to do for themselves. Fantastic effort. Do yourself something else nice too.
