I have been a smoker for 33 years and I am 45 years old, I have recently tried patches and found I cut down smoking but couldn't stop altogether. I have tried replacing ciggies with the spray but i don't want to swap one habit for another either. I have read Alan Carr's Easy way to stop smoking and found it very useful and fantastic encouragement. I have discovered that I am a chain smoker. Even whilst smoking I need another cigarette. I have attempted to go cold turkey however I have only lasted half a day or so. My husband is also a smoker. Not as bad as myself but for a longer time approx 45 years. So much harder when its in your face all the time but I am determined to stop with or without him.Day one on champix , the need to smoke or constant need is not there, fantastic, this has to work.

Hi Julie. I was a smoker for many years and like you I gave up using Champix. My partner, like yours, didn't give up when I did but just kept smoking and that meant leaving her cigs and lighter around while I was giving up/given up. I gradually got her to not leave them around and go further outside when having a cigarette which she now does. Well I was bloody determined, just like you, and it's now been 118 days since I had my final cigarette. It can be done even when your partner doesn't give up with you. My partner is now trying to give up using Champix and she has my full support. I think she was very surprised at my determination and the fact I did what I said I would do, that is give up. The Champix are really good at blocking the nicotine receptors and after only 9 weeks of taking them I decided to go alone and that was about 8 weeks ago. No cravings, no desire to smoke. The feeling of freedom is worth it! As are the financial and health benefits. I feel so much healthier, fitter and I can breathe! Good luck to you. If you want it bad enough you can make it happen, I did.
