Cold Turkey

I started smoking more than 45 years ago as a teenager.I smoked 20-25 cigarettes a day.Early last Wednesday I stopped smoking cold turkey. My age is now 61 and I have C.O.P.D. (a lung disease including emphysema) and I take medications a min. six times a day to help my breathing. On some days I can hardly walk off my front steps without losing my air.Other days I can go about two km. to the river with my wife.
I have no cigarettes in the house and I will NOT buy any!I need to do this for me,my wife, and family. There is not an alternative!!

i am also 61 years old i gave up at 58 years it was much later i found out i have c.o.a.d. emphysema in a low dose i use a puffer night and morn. we always think that we are bullit-proof and that it won't happen to us well it does as soon as we light that first cigarette, well it is good that you have stopped, and all the best to you and yours.

Thank you,you don't know how much..I want to live another 30years with a good quality of life.

You are very welcome...My catchphrase is 'Be Stubborn' and in control, not the cigarettes/nicotine!
I'm using Bupropion (example Zyban) 175mg twice a day.

Wow! i just joined this site.. I quit smoking pretty much cold turkey (2 or 3 Nicorette throat lozenges are day) on February 15th... I was looking around this site just to get some strength and will power and found your post. I can say it certainly makes one think... which is what I wanted to do. You always think it will never happen to you --- COPD -- but, you know we're all vulnerable.
