Champix is the way to go imo!!

Hi all,

I've been smoking 30+ cigarettes a day for 15 years. During this time I've attempted to quit on countless occasions and with every method I can think of (except hypnotherapy).

With every method I started smoking again because the urge was overwhelming even weeks/months into it. Champix was the exception.

I'm now a week nicotine free on my 3rd attempt with champix. Unlike the other methods I resumed smoking the first 2 attempts because champix made it nearly too easy (in comparison anyway!!)

Both times I neglected to get another prescription (not a big fan of visiting the doctor) after the 1st month, thinking myself "cured". Within weeks I was having a social smoke with a drink etc and before long was back into the habit fulltime.

This time I will continue the medication for the whole 3 months and more if necessary. Everybody is different but for me, it has been by far and away the most effective method to give me a realistic chance of quiting.

As for adverse effects, I feel nauseous for about 15 minutes after taking tablet and, as other posts have mentioned, I get very vivid dreams (good and bad). Nothing over the top, I would put up with a lot more to be free of the addiction.

Anyway, I wish all of you luck in kicking the habit, whichever method youre attempting (especially those going cold turkey!! I wish I had your will power!!). My only hope is that I'm as pro-champix in 3 months time!!!

Good on you BK, my regular posts on champix go back 4 weeks, could help you. Day 46 for me, feeling very pleased with my self. Dropped alcohol 2 weeks ago also. Never ever thought I could do the 2 at the same time. I think I really want to rid myself of this harmful smelly addiction once and for all. Re. Dropping the booze, I'm sleeping better and certainly feeling better in the morning.

Wow, thats fantastic..congrads!!, i've been seriously thinking of champix because i think i'm the worse smoker in the world!, been trying to give up the last few months (5 times), what a disaster. In the past i've tried every method available but hopless. My dr says i have extremely addictive personality and recommended champix. I didn't want to because i'd heard stuff plus i'm on heaps of medication for my back, (waiting for surgery). But honestly now i'm going to try it bacause there is no way i can do it ct or nrt. Thanks for your story & lots of luck,
