here i am on day four and going okay but i am a little apprehensive.  this is my second time on champix but i have to do it now.  i am nearly 50 and was diagnosed with emphysema in march 2012...its taken me this long to get here but there is no turning back for me...it really is do or die... i am feeling positive but a little scared...smokes have been a constant companion for most of my life and whilst i hate them and the power they have over me, i have found some enjoyment also...i cant lie about that...but its definitely time to ove on and get my life back...  so i am planning to stop altogether in just over a week... champix has definitely helped the cravings but old habits are hard to break and oday when i had a friend over i had 3 in a short space of time...shame...but happy to say i did not have any after dinner so i feel a bit better about that...i also have a party to go to following saturday but i rally dont know if i should go as social situations really make it hard for me...i think i will just wait and see how the champix has kicked by then...havent really had many side effects yet,,,the first day i felt violently ill for 5 minutes and stayed in bed..the second day i had a glass of water with the tablet and it seemed to stop the nausea...having some trouble sleeping and crazy dreams when i do and also slightly constipated, but i figure its all minor discomfot compared to continued snoking1  does anyone have any wise words for me?   just like to wish everyone else good luck as well1

I am taking chantix and I would nauseous if I didnt eat anything with it. Take the pill with a full stomach and full glass of water. I avoided other smokers...at work I spent breaks in the break room instead of going outside to my car. I told people not to give me cigarettes if I asked. People at work have been very supportive! I have been sucking on some coffee hard candy at work too. Its helping at times. I dont drink more than a cup of coffee a day because if I drink too much I want a cigarette. Ive been playing a lot of games on my phone also. Good luck with quitting!

you are right,, people are supportive but i have avoided telling anyone apart from my husband as i feel too much pressure... but i think i will just have to avoid parties for a little while! too bad its nearly xmas! but i plan to have given up by then so im not too worried yet.... im trying not too go overboard with eating too much extra, as i have realised that i used to substitute cigarettes for food.... good luck to you too and thanks!

Well done on making the first step. Stay strong and positive and tell yourself you CAN and WILL beat it. One day at a time, after the first three weeks it does get easier. Good luck and continue to remind yourself on the reasons for your quitting.

I have quit smoking many times in the past but have always gone back to it. I stopped four times for a year each time. Lately I have managed a few weeks here and there. Most people I know don't smoke I don't smoke around them it doesn't trouble me. However my daughter lives at home and smokes in the kitchen, that is a trigger for me. The expense of smoking is the main reason I would like to quit as I have a 17 month old grandson and would prefer to spend the money on him. I would hate to say I can't afford to buy that as I spend so much money on smokes. Smoking 10 a day is $80.00 a week now.I'm cutting back for the first 2 weeks and am using the mouth spray as patches make me feel ill and I also have restless nights on the patches but not while using the mouth spray. I hope to say I'm a non smoker in 6 months.

so i had a bit of a hiccup taking the champix as i developed a chronic back pain (nothing to do with champix),,,so because of the pain and having to take pain killers, my original quit day was delayed....i ended up stopping completely on december 22....what a crazy time to give up! especially as we hosted christmas and had family staying with us! but we did it! had some great fights and niggly moments but have managed to come through and havent smoked since....actually stopped the champix after the first week of quitting as i hated it so much, but couldnt have stopped with out it...it just helped so much with the cravings....any way here i am 17 days on and dont want to smoke ever again....stll feel awful though and having more phlegm than before, but that is in part the emphysema anyway..cant sleep, lots of random pains, etc, but its all totally worth it...i give myself 3 months and hopefully will feel better by them.....actually my sense of smell has already improved but not taste yet...but looking forward to the new me and the future...good luck everyone, if i can do it, anyone can!!
