Allan Carr - The Easy Way to Quit Smoking

schedule 18 Sep 2013

Not sure if anyone else has read this book, or have experiences that they want to share... but all I can say is WOW.. WOW... WOW

I'm now on day 5 with no nicotine and I just can't believe how EASY it has been.

I thoughly recommend this book to anyone even contemplating quiting. I for years have been trying to / wanting to quit but just never have been able to do it.

Previous attempts without some form of NRT havent lasted a day, sometimes with NRT I've lasted reasonably well but NEVER won the battle!

I know that 5 days in I havent won yet, but through Allan Carrs book I have been able to see things like never before. I crushed out my final smoke and truely feel great without anything other than controling my own thoughts....

I'd be interested in how others have found this book?

Hi there i have read the allan carr book many years ago but i didnt stop smoking at all.He has some interesting thoughts in there like when giving up not to use NRT which makes sense as you are trying to quite the nicotine addiction, also i can relate to all the blood noses i used to get when smoking. It is a very good book to read but at the time i dont think i was 100% ready to take the plunge. Good luck with your journey im 7 weeks smoke free and taking champix which is helping.

you can do anything if you are in the right frame of mind, you have to really want to quit, it appears you do.

I'm always dubious about "easy" ways to quit, especially when you are being charged to find out about it

Having said that the "cognitive quitting" website had some really helpful stuff on it, and I did go ahead and buy their book, but a lot of the info was free on the website anyway

I wonder if they are at all similar??

Hi Freshair I thought Allan's book was brilliant. I still refer to it every now and then (I am 155 days smoke-free). It made so much sense to me. But I also think you have to be so ready to quit. Good luck. This website is also so helpful and I could not have come this far without the encouragement and support I have found here.

Hi Freshair, you're doing so well! Just wondering, do you think this book would be helpful for someone who has already quit, but is using NRT? I know my next big hurdle, I'm 10 weeks a non smoker, is going to be stopping the NRT.......

Hey you have a great attitude, really positive well done and you are doing really well. Stay strong. I heard so many great things about Alan Carr stuff.... I found some videos on youtube that helped me.

Hi Dottily.

Firstly well done on the 10 weeks.

As for the book, I think it would help. It is aimed at those currently smoking but I'm sure it will help with getting off NRT as well.

Also, I'm pleased to report that I spent the night at the pub with friends last night who are all HEAVY SMOKERS. I didnt crack, or even find it difficult to not smoke so very happy about that.

One of them told me this morning that they went through a pack in less than 4hrs. - No matter how hard, we are all doing the right thing and have to stay strong!

Hi Freshair,

Thank you so much, I'll have a look at the book. You have done so well resisting the cravings with friends who smoke. Just be aware, the first few weeks I found I could cope with smoking friends, kind of mentally prepared, but it was the unexpected sudden cravings I found much more difficult. Like going somewhere I must have automatically lit up a smoke in the past, very hard to deal with at the time. But if you can buy yourself time, get over the sudden craving , you'll get through it.

I've read the book and done 2 classes too. It is a great system but it didn't work for me. Maybe it was too easy! My advice with EASYWAY is if you fall off the wagon and smoke it breaks the EASYWAY spell and then EASYWAY doesn't work again. I know that sounds obvious or crazy. EASYWAY is very much mental and if you break the thinking it all falls apart.
