time to quit

Its time for me to quit smoking but not sure how it is going to go. Its my first time ever quitting and hopefully it will be the last.
Im a 37 year old female and over weight. I have never wanted to quit before for the fact of not wanting to put on more weight.
The reason for quitting is my partner who is 36 had a heart attack last week (10 july 2013), yes 36. He is a heavy smoker and that is the reasons the doctor said is why he had a heart attack. He is not overweight he drinks alcohol occassionally eats pretty bad but smokes about 30-40 smokes a day. He is fine now had a stent put in and has quit, he has not had 1 smoke since.
We have 3 children 13, 8 and 4.
Now if that is not a good enough reason for me to quit as well i dont know what is!! ive only been having 5 - 7 smokes a day since he had his heart attack but i need more help than cold turkey as it is on my mind constintaly..............so off i go to get champix and no more smelly smoking for us.
1 thing i need to ask, how do i stop wanting to eat all the time??????
Fingers crossed this chapter of our lives is finished

Hi Joanne
I had a heart attack 4 weeks ago I was 49 and was discharged on my 50th Birthday.I do not smoke anymore and never will again.

Hi Joanne,
Eat well before or after taking Champix or else you will feel the nausea with Champix and the negative side effects.
The first time i tried to quit i did for 1 month without Champix, I realised that I wanted to smoke whenever I was thirsty or hungry... We smokers are replacing our water intake with smoke intake.. So have a bottle of water handy and drink water when you feel the urge..
Also obesity is lot less riskier than smoking.. Eat as much as you want when you are trying to quit smoking... You can always reduce weight later or need be, get liposuction done ;)... you cant reduce the damage done by smoking so easily..

Hey jo, to make the decision is 1 thing. To be 100% committed is another. Without this you may struggle with Champix or other therapies. No harm in trying.
With the weight thing, if you get a craving, go for a light jog or a walk. You'll have so much more energy.
Go for it and good luck.

Hey Joanne, you have 4 great reasons for giving up. I am on champix and it's working for me after 40 years of 25 a day. I was worried about the eating too, but have concentrated on giving up smokes rather than worrying about food. I haven't had a cig in 27 days now and the snacking is under control. I have sugar free lollies (double d fruit drops from Coles) and I sip water all the time. Don't be too hard on yourself, you are cutting down , so maybe the way for you to go is to cut down to quit. Good luck to you and keep reading and posting

Hi Jo, congratulations on even thinking of giving up, I'm on day 22 of not smoking thanks to Champix as is my Hubby, I still say to myself for re-inforcement - (if you want one you can go buy some) don't think of it as deprivation, think of it like you can but won't (if that makes any sense) sort of like tricking your brain into thinking that it's a choice not a forced decision! Good luck and buy some Chuppa Chups! they take a long time to suck on! Michelle :)

Hi Jo..... good girl for making the choice of giving up. Champix are very good..... good luck with it.... read a few of the posts here on Champix too help also. I found when I get cravings, drink water, brushing the teeth helps.... mouthwash ..... freshens the breath so you won't smoke. I wish you luck .... keep posting look forward to hearing from you.
