Attempt number three

Posted in Getting started
schedule 1 Feb 2013

Okay, here goes my third attempt to quit, so far I have tried the patches (that made me sick) the gum (it tasted aweful) and the e-ciggarette (worked for a month) now my plan is to go cold turkey, I think that reasons to quit just keep stacking up, I have smoked since I was 14 I am now 20. Reason one: I am scared to death of dying. Reason two: I cant walk for more then 3 minutes without being out of breath. Reason three: My partner has been quit for two year's, I am simply procrastinating. Reason four: I want to be quit before planning to start a family. and Reason five: I am simply not enjoying it anymore. So, words of wisdom before I actually quit on Monday would be fantastic?

Good for you Liana- Catherine, I've also tried the patches & gum with similar results and am trying cold turkey from today - 1st Feb. My mantra is 'what a great month to start, only 28 days and I can say I've gone a month'. Best of luck, stick with it.

Why not try Champix? A lot of the guys on this site swear by it. I can't testify to it yet. I am on day 9, so really still waiting for my revelation day, but even my doctor said he has had amazing success with it with his patients. I know I don't have the willpower to go cold turkey, so hat' off to you. Good Luck!!

Good on you Liana-Catherine, many people don't have the strength to do it cold turkey, I applaaude you!! :)

As for some advice, take it one day at a time. A story I once read on here had the best advice possible - "I'll quit just for today, everyday".

And as for when you get cravings, what I do is acknowledge that they're there, then try and keep my mind and hands busy. E.g Maybe, make a healthy snack, play a game that requires you to think or even read a good book.

I am 11 days smoke free using only Champix, no NRT. You sound like a strong willed person. Good luck to you! :)
