Hi all Quitters,

I chose to give up smoking about two weeks ago. My kids were getting very upset with my smoking, it was costing me money that should of been spent on them, and I was sick of the choking and coffing. I chose to give up and lasted till about 5pm. Each day this would happen for about five days. Even if I was at work on shift, and I hadn't taken smokes with me, I would go to the shops on my break and buy a pack.

Last Monday I was on late shift. 12pm till 11pm. I chose not to take smokes with me. I chose to go to the gym on my break. I chose to fight through each craving, and I chose to eat more chocolate than I have in the last 12 months! Yes, I am battling 12 months of weight loss, followed by quitting smoking. Sucks to be me! But I am at day 4, I am sitting at home and haven't had a smoke since Sunday. I am very proud of myself, and determined and focussed on getting through one week. Then two week. Then three weeks. Then a month. I want to be free of the control cigarettes had over me, my family and my health.

Good luck to all fo you. Pete.

Good on ya Petester. My Grandfather always told me that smoking was a choice, even if I was addicted. I chose to pick up the cigarette stick it in my mouth and light it and guess what he was right! I'm at day 45 as a non-smoker and wish that he was here to tell him!

Take one day at a time and keep strong!!

Thanks for your comments and inspiration. After a couple of beers, I am still strong enough to restrain. Cheers, Petester

Great to hear you are succeeding petester, the first few weeks are usually the toughest, best advised I can give is do not put yourself in situations where you may be tempted to take them up again, and if anyone ever asks you tell them your a non smoker and after a short while you will truely beleive that you are.

Good on you Pete!! I have only just quit, I cut back from about 15 smokes a day to 2 smokes now just started yesterday I am having none!!Just like you I use to not take smokes to work and would find myself asking another work mate for a smoke or sneaking around to the shop to buy a pack!! Its hard work and find the bloody things are always on my mine so I am now on this quit line read everyone else's comments and keeping myself sooo busy to keep myself on track! keep going you are not alone!!

Hi Quitsters! Thanks again for the encouragement. I have not had a smoke now for 6 days.......that's 144 hours, or 8640 minutes (give or take). I am very proud of my efforts this week, but what makes me strong is getting on this site every night and seeing the new quitters and reading a couple of encouraging stories. During the day, I find going to the gym and remembering the stories I have read the night before a great sourse of motivation. Thanks Leesa, happygail, Anzac71, trish k, rainbow and quitforgood for your encouragement - Anzac71 if you are military, thanks, I did 20 years and started the day I joined! Thought I would fit in better! Good luck and smoke free, Petester.
