Had my last cigarette this morning as it was the last in my packet. Determined not to buy anymore. Am on patches, which makes me a bit spacey. The hardest part is breaking the habit/routine of going for a cigarette after eating or completing something at work - any tips for breaking this routine?

I'm scared, but am trying to remember that it is just FEAR and I can break through that barrier - there's certainly worse things to be scared of, especially if I don't quit smoking!! Have started reading one of the Allen Carr books, am going to the gym after work, then home to finish that book!

Yay DianaDJ welcome to quitland!! Keeping busy is good, and keep reminding yourself it is just a habit that you have control over, and you only have to decide not to have a cigarette to stay a non smoker. Take it one step at a time to start with, read old posts on here, drink water, eat carrot/celery sticks..anything to keep hands and mouth busy and remember it will get easier!

Breaking the habit/routine was also the hardest thing for me also. I had to change things around for awhile, like I stopped drinking coffee especially in the morning as I associated that with cigarettes. I started going for walks after mealtimes as that would be when I craved a smoke the most. I joined an aerobic class and have really made that my focus now trying to get fit and eating well. The first few weeks will be the hardest but it does get easier. I am almost 5 months since my last smoke and I am never going back. This site will also be a huge support so sign in as much as you can. Best of luck on our quit journey:)

Well done DianaDJ. The first few days are the hardest but keep busy and keep reminding yourself that you don't smoke. I'm on day 31 and drinking lots of water and really enjoying a pleasant tasting mouth.

Thanks for all the support everyone, I actually slipped up and had a cigarette last night :-/ My flatmate left her packet out and it was staring at me in the face.

Not going to let it discourage me though, 1 cigarette is better than the 20 I would normally smoke, and it won't be happening again

My hardest time is on the phone. The other day i thought i would phone my brother. At that very second, my mind and body went into nicotine cravings as i pictured myself outside in the backyard on the phone like i used to do. I decided to leave the call for another time. The next day i made the call at a time i wouldn't usually have smoked (in the morning. It worked. I was on the phone for an hour without even an thought of a smoke. Hope this helps
