My first attempt failed miserably. I was 6 months in and went on a cruise with my husband another couple. both husbands did not smoke.  In that time frame i put on 12 kgs!!!  so drinking, cruising and $7 pack cigs, well here we go again!!! 2 months later i suffered a respitory arrest.  no asthma, no indication. Yes i was using an inhaler increasingly, but no indication at all!! By the time the ambos got here, i had no pulse. If he had been 1-2 mins later, i would have suffered a massive heart attack and not be here now. Still i continued to smoke. Now 3 yrs later and going thru atleast a puffer a week, i am on champix again. Its been 19 days and most days i feel good, some NO. i really need support to keep going as my husband now believes the worst is over. Ive smoked for over 25 yrs. He has no idea!! ive lost 6 of those 12kgs and dont need to put anymore on. I have 6 kids, the youngest 8 yr old twins. I want to be here for them. HELP!!!!

Hi Shelly, I hear the desperation in what you have written, but look back at what you yourself, wrote! You never failed miserably! You WON for 6 months! and your still on a winner now. Shelly, I almost busted tonight after 6 days but logged on here and read your plea straight up. These periods of ups and downs(I call'em waves,I've been through it all with alcohol)They do pass as I'm sure you have been told, so hang in there and always ask for help, okay??? & when it's offered? take it. You obviously love your family so much, I bet they love you more.......

Hi Shelley, wow, you have so much to live for! I was a heavy smoker for over 20 years and even when my Dad died from lung cancer, I still smoked! You have to really want to give it up and when you have decided that, half the battle is won. I use the patches and find they are good, the Champix made me sick! I have noticed that I have put on weight, but I will work on that later; right now I'm concentrating on being a non smoker.

You can do this shelley and the support from everyone here is fantastic. We will all support you but you have to make the decision whether you want to be a smoker or a non smoker! Good luck!

hugs xx

Someone on here posted a while back the best advice I've ever heard. The easiest way to give up smoking is to never ever put a cigarette in your mouth. Just don't do that and commit to dealing with the discomfort that comes from that choice. It's nothing compared to the discomfort you and your kids will feel if your health fails. You did it for 6 months, so you've proved you can quit.

Remember that you're not giving anything up either because you have everything to gain. You are giving up a life struggling to breathe and self loathing. You can do it Shelley.
