Have cut down, now to quit

I have gone from smoking about 12 a day down to 2 a day, with gum as well. This has happened over the last couple of weeks. I was smoking rollies but bought a pack of taylors which was to be my last pack. Smoked that pack and bought another. And another. Not buying any more but I have bummed a couple of my housemates. I have started using the gum a few days ago and that is helping. Need to have it on hand. This morning the craving got too much and I had a rollie when my housemate smoked one. I can't keep asking my housemates and am determined not to buy another pack. This evening I really wanted to ask my other housemate for one but I resisted, yay! The aim is not to smoke one at all tomorrow, just gum. Then slowly reduce the gum.

I tried to quit this way before. You need to tell those people around you to not give you a cigarette. They need to know how important it is to you. And that they can help you not to fail. Good luck with tomorrow keep that gum with you.

You have done so well to get done from 12 to just 2 so you can manage the extra 2 as well! Find out what is triggering the bad cravings that you have to give in for the 2 and take yourself out of the equation, Ask if your housemates would mind smoking outside for a while or ask them to be mean and just say no! Have you thought of the patches ? they really do work? Have them gum with you all the time and that day you go with out one do a little dance because you did do it and you can do it again.

Thanks for the support! I think for me actually it was better that they did give me the odd cigarette, otherwise I honestly would have bought another pack, and then smoked the whole pack. I guess everyone is different. But further down the track I do think it's best if they don't enable me. Well it took me a couple more days but I'm doing well now. I had a big night out on Saturday and drank and smoked quite a lot. On Sunday I was so hungover I didn't even want one! Yesterday (Monday) I succumbed to one but haven't had one today and am feeling very strong. Haven't even needed gum! My housemates don't smoke inside anymore but it still gives me the worst cravings when they go outside for one. I've been trying to stay away from the house as much as possible, which has helped. Thanks again for the support, really appreciate it!
