It's time to stop

I recently decided to make a serious attempt at quiting after 12 years of smoking. For me it is a habit that is more psychological than physical which means that my previous attempts have failed as I haven't changed my ways of thinking about my smoking. After recently starting to read one of Allen Carr's books I have realised that is a disease, an addiction - not just a habit. I want to quit, and use several different methods at once to increase my chances of succeeding. These include joining this website, changing my understanding of the addiction, Allen Carr's book and lots of exercise. I would really like to try Champix or Zyban - however I have read many horror stories about the side effects such as depression. Being prone to some bouts of depression without this medication, I am hesitant to try it but the positives such as hating smoking (yes please!) seem very appealing. Thoughts?

Do it! I am in my second week and altough its not easy, am feeling some benefit already. You are right, it has a lot to do with mindset. I have tried quitting previously, not because I really wanted to but because I thought I had to. This time it will be different for me too, good luck!

Tried champix, vomited every time. Gone onto patches, greater success. Down to 5 cigs instead of 40. Next week...Dday. Realised I have to just do it...no excuses. Good luck to you.

I say give champix a try. I started taking it last week and I am finding the side effects easy to deal with so far. I haven't experienced any nausea. The most prominent side effect is anger, but it's manageable and it does pass.
I haven't been able to smoke more than half a cigarette at a time for a few days now so I'm very hopeful about my quit date.
