How to get ready for your quit day
Planning to quit smoking or vaping is a big step. Getting prepared can make it easier to stay on track when your quit day arrives.
If your quit date is fast approaching, it's time to get ready. Start by removing anything that might remind you of smoking or vaping. Go through your home, car and workplace. Throw out cigarettes, vapes, lighters and ashtrays. If someone you live with smokes or vapes, ask them not to do it around you while you’re trying to quit.
It’s also helpful to have a plan for tough moments. Cravings are normal, but they do pass. Try writing down a few things you can do instead of reaching for a cigarette or vape. Some ideas include:
- Chew gum or mints
- Sip cold water
- Go for a walk
- Try a breathing exercise
- Eat a healthy snack
- Text or call a friend
- Play a game on your phone
- Use a stress ball or fidget toy
