13 weeks - a quarter of a year

Posted in Quit experiences 22 Nov 2015

Just hit the thirteen week mark and glad that this was a reason to celebrate. There have been some relatively easy weeks for a couple but the last three days were horrible. It just seems unfair that I can still go through such a bad trot after all this time. I agree with others on this site - there is no 'one size fits all'. We all started smoking for different reasons and we have all decided to quit for different reasons.

What we share here are the frustrations we experience and the wonderful milestones we reach.

I think my top tip today is to re-visit the reasons I decided to quit. Those reasons are why I still put up with horrid cravings (only from time to time) and weight gain. If the ruler of the universe had ever smoked, she would have rewarded the quitters of this world with great sleep, a calm and constant temperament and a reduced appetite.

Good luck to everyone still trudging down the road.

It's been 8 weeks for me and I also have just had the worst weekend. Seems to be mainly weekends for me, but this has been the worst! I know what you mean, it should be getting easier. Anyway I have just had to grin and bear it, and also had to remind myself of why I wanted to give up..Yep sure is a roller coaster ride...cheers!

Well done Fullofhope. Congratulations for not smoking cigarettes. Every time you don't light up is a success! Again, like I tell everyone create distractions for yourself whenever you feel wanting to smoke. Having a smoke-free life is just much better than killing ourselves with poison nicotine. When I first quit 449 days ago, cold turkey I actually anticipated the challenges that was coming to me. My willpower was outstanding!! And I used it to my advantage. I beat my nicotine addiction. Now I am very happy n healthy. Best wishes!! Remember, NOT ANOTHER PUFF!!

Well done Fullofhope. You have come so far. Obviously you still have a way to go but you are doing great!!!! I am not as far down the track as you are but I keep reminding myself that I am only ever one cigarette away from being a smoker again. There is no way I want to go through quitting again and everything hard and horrible that comes with it.

Well done Fullofhope, I am only a couple of weeks behind you and wish there was a like button, so I can click on it after your stories..
Looking forward to this rollercoaster ride having a lot more flats and less ups and downs and I know the perks are rewarding, just cant wait until there is less side effects.. We can do this..

Well done Fullofhope. I have been having a bit of a struggle the last couple of days and I am at the 3 week mark. I have also read about the "Icky threes" - 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months and that these seem to be the bumpy periods for most in the quit journey. I am determined to not give in. Good luck.

when I started my journey it was you, lia, sasha and ofcourse Nannette who were the main inspirations to this crazy journey of ours.
After reading these posts as our days and weeks mount up I must be very lucky as my cravings are basically non existant any more.
Keep up the great work and don't light up a stinkn demon for any reason and soon enough you too will be free im sure

That's brilliant, this site has been a huge support for me too😊 its so difficult giving up and we seem to be so hard on ourselves too, that's why other people and their experiences are so important.Even now I can't imagine a lifetime without smoking and that's the truth but just for today I wont smoke!!

What has happened to this site? Where did that global lingo market stuff come from. Hope you report these posts as abuse, as I have.

Thanks all for your encouragement and support. I still cannot believe that I have not smoked for a quarter of a year and I still cannot contemplate one. May we all triumph together.
