Champix - A Journey

NOTE: Prior to today, I was a 3-4 cigarette with morning coffee person, 2-3 after lunch, 1 in the late afternoon, 2-3 in the evening.

Day 2:

Had my pill in the morning. Slightly nauseous for about 20 mins, then had a banana. Seemed to fix it.

Morning: 2 cigs and a coffee: All three tasted funny - coffee was more bitter than usual?

Subsequent cigarettes: 2 after lunch.  Both also tasted odd, and had no ´calming´ effect, but also not feeling anxious.

I know I don´t need to stop for 7 days, but can´t help but cut down. The urge is not there.

    Hi Mix -

Day 11 - good for you. I managed to avoid the nausea this morning by eating about 10 mins before the pill - just a banana. Seemed to do the trick.

    Hi All,
Thank you for all the comments and they seem to make more sense than a lot I've read on other sites!! I'm day 11 on Champix and really biting at the bit!! I've had +-4 smokes before work but none thus far at work, walked in and decided its BS that I want to quit and still smoke after 11days..still craving a cigarette like crazy :(
I've had bad nausea but if I drink +- 2glasses of water with my tablet then its not so bad, headaches, bad dreams and off late I feel "omgekrap" or just plain grumpy and I don't know why. I'm by nature a very positive chirpy person and have no reason to feel like this.
Anyway I am going to bite the bullet and ride the wave. Off to gym this afternoon, hopefully it will alleviate some off edginess.
Good luck with if you suffer any side effects, it does easy up!

No worries - you actually just made me re-read my first story on the Lexapro etc when I was on day 2. Yeah - no worries at all since then with the depression, in fact the general uplift in my health means I've been more buoyant overall. However, keep a feel on your moods and do give your doctor a call if you come across any moods you're struggling with (obviously!) It should go well though, personally I'm loving it.
The only thing in that first story that I'm not sure about is the whole drinking thing. I don't want to seem a hypocrite. As you know, I ditched that 'moderate drinking' plan and have had a few big nights since I wrote that first post. Strangely, my drinking behaviour has been fine (according to friends) so perhaps that first week or whatever was a bad idea. Still - careful on the first night, see how you go. In a week or two, try to forget you're taking the pills- people obsess about them and read every little blip as significant. Just remember your doctor has your back, as does this forum.

    Thanks MoreMoney -

Good to hear that you are going so well!

Water or sugar free lollies seem to be a good replacement - I have my packet of mints ready.

It´s so exciting to read that people are going really well on them. It gives me immense hope that this will be my fifth and final attempt!

Hiya PL, I'm on my 3rd week of champix and smoked my last cig after 16 days on them. They tasted really bad to me as well and I wasn't getting the hit either. Im still dealing with cravings, but sip water Or have a sugar free Lollies. I haven't had a drink yet, but will be off to the club this week to see how I go. Good luck

    Hi Jack -

Thanks for your comment - it is quite encouraging! I had no idea how the pills would work out, and like you, trawled other forums where people have had a big whinge about Champix, so, I will take your advice and just cruise it for a bit.

Also - I am on antidepressants as well, so was glad to read that you have not had any bad side effects like suicide! I shall certainly stay out of the pub for a few weeks though - I don´t think that the possibility of down-time is quite worth it.

Hey PL - well done and welcome to the journey. So you've probably read it's a bit different for everyone and in your case it sounds pretty effective to be working on Day 2! I didn't stop smoking until day 13 or something and even then could have kept smoking - instead I just stayed away from the shops for a couple of days and lo and behold, it was no problem being without smokes.
I reckon try not to focus too much on waiting for the drugs to transform you, just cruise it and see how long you can go without one on day 7 or so. If you still crave, give it a few more days. No biggie (you actually have 14 days not 7 and even that is not a hard figure). Don't hit the beers until you're around two weeks off the smokes altogether. That's what I did and it's been fine on the Jack Daniels etc with mates.
