Side Effects

Hi Everyone

I've been on Champix and am now 70 days smoke free, with no slip-ups - I'm amazed.  This week would have been the last week on Champix, but on Monday, with 5 days to go decided to cease it.  For the last 2-3 weeks have been getting periods of sharp abdominal pain and gas, and then last week both hands started becoming numb at night, badly enough to wake me from sleep.  Did some research and found both symptoms could be possible side effects, so decided to stop Champix and see what happened.  Three days later the numbness has not recurred and the abdominal pain is almost gone.  As Champix is not an NRT, and acts by blocking nicotine, and because I'm so close to the end of the course and feel I can be strong, won't be starting it again. Also today, for the first time in ages, I don't feel tired and in fact have had heaps of energy, wonderful!

I would not want to dissuade anyone from using it.  Just wanted to let you know what happened to me towards the end of the three months.  It has been so worth it - I'M A NON-SMOKER!  And have saved heaps, and feel great.

So persevere everyone, its taken me 40+ years, but I know now I can win, and so can we all..

Hi Solo, so happy to read your post. I am also on Champix, 44 days smoke-free. I have actually halved my dose as the nausea was so bad. Am so glad that you have had a good experience once you stopped the tabs. Was a bit worried about stopping them. Well done on 70 days! That is so awesome.

    Hi All
Just want to let Elnino know - My GP put me on Champix because it was gentler than Zybahn .. maybe talk to your Dr re the differences.
Also, never had nausea - took my pills with breakfast and dinner which seems to help from other stories. This is such a great support site, its great to hear how others are doing...
Hi Converse- well done on week 1.
    Rennie - how're you doing?
