Hi all :-)

Just wondering if there are others out there who already suffered with anxiety and depression BEFORE they quit smoking and what affect did quitting have on ur already existing mental health?

Also, if it made ur anxiety worse for the first week or 2, did it then begin to get better?

Hi kingkelz yep I experience anxiety and quitting smoking cold turkey increased my anxiety and also added a mild depression to it. It took till week 6 smoke free to start backing off. I was determined that it was not going to push me back to smoking. I had to address a few things in my life and make a few changes to help lessen the anxiety and I have also taken steps to talk with a professional in regards to my mental wellbeing. There are others on this site who have experienced anxiety just read through the stories. Best of luck with it ❤️

Hi there :-) yes that sounds very similar to me, I have had to make a few lifestyle changes for my anxiety aswell. As long as I know it's a common symptoms because as u know urself, once u get anxiety there can't be any other reason for it except ur going crazy or dying! Very draining!

We get anxious about anything unfamiliar to us....starting a new job or perhaps flying on a plane. Many people experience difficulties in quitting smoking, but then some like I do not.
If you anticipate , rather than dread doing something, it will make a difference will it not?
Try to focus on the good things about to come your way as a non smoker.
Do things that you enjoy doing to replace those dopamine jolts.
Eat foods that help your seretonin and enhance your good moods.
Be happy that you are about to change your life for the better. It does not have to be something to fear.

    Think of fear as FEAR
    Forget excuses/face reality
We can overcome our fear of quitting smoking when we change our mindset. Read and Learn. You CAN do this, perhaps even easier than you ever imagined. Make it something you WANT. BELIEVE than you will.
